What:
Healing Through Nature is a community-based group that is meant to help members of Invisible Wounds Project work through their trauma by connecting with both nature and others
with similar experiences. The purpose of this group is to build a connection to nature and a sense of belonging through community. Each weekend we will meet at Invisible Wounds Project and then carpool over to a pre-determined state or local park, or you can choose to meet at the park. Events will be determined by the season and available supplies.
When:
We will meet at IWP at 9am on the day of the event (Saturday’s) and then make our way over to the designated park.
October 18th: Banning State Park,
November 8th: Interstate Park Minnesota/Wisconsin
Where:
Groups will meet at Invisible Wounds Project in the morning and then carpool over to the designated state park or you can choose to meet at the park.
Why:
Connecting with nature in any way whether it’s viewing pictures, listening to the sounds of nature, or walking through it has shown to be helpful in reducing anxiety and stress, and
rebuilding a sense of self. Research has also shown that building a connection with nature can improve well-being and lead to deeper self-understanding by creating space for thinking, which
allows us to develop new insights, perspectives, and coping strategies.
Who:
All members of Invisible Wounds Project are invited to join in the outdoor adventures. Dogs are also welcome to join on hiking trips.
Goal:
The goal of this program is to help members of IWP connect with nature, learn new coping skills, develop new perspectives, and help build a community that they can connect with when
they need support.
Hikes will be easy to moderate level and length can be determined
