About The BundyBand "Sweet Preserves" Jazz Band

Inspired by the music and spirit of Preservation Hall The BundyBand "Sweet Preserves" Jazz Band focuses specifically on the "traditional jazz" style of New Orleans. This show will feature classic trad jazz standards, wild group jams, and second-line grooves that we hope will transport your spirit back to St. Peter Street in the French Quarter.

About Reb Conner

Come groove to the velvety sound of musical duo Reb Conner and Leon Cotter. Reb and Leon are the Ma and Pa of Portland funk and world band "Reb and the Good News," and their stripped-down duo set retains all that jazzy fullness, scaled to an intimate atmosphere. Multi-instrumentalist Leon is a touring member of the California Honeydrops, and Reb is a singer/songwriter with roots in jazz, soul, and world music. Reb and Leon inspire the heart and nourish the soul, with their curated blend of love songs, jazz standards, and uplifting original work. With a mélange of keys, sax, clarinet, guitar, and lush vocal harmonies, these two take the audience on a sultry, good-time ride that will keep listeners vibing all evening long.

About Big Spender

Big Spender is the Portland, OR-based, pop-rock project of singer-songwriter Ian Mullin, with contributions from other artists. The self-titled debut album features lyric-driven songs underlain by harmony-soaked melodies. The subtle poetry, glossed-over humor, and elaborate arrangements make Big Spender a multi-faceted project, jam-packed with artistic detail, as is emblematic of this hyphenated/compound adjective-laden description.

About Mikey Whalen

Mikey Whalen is an indie songwriter who draws inspiration from the songwriting heavy hitters of decades past. His songs tell stories of lovable misfits and existential woes, sometimes melancholic, sometimes humorous, and often both. He writes and records his songs in his Portland home, which he has affectionately dubbed 'Pinball Castle'.

About Mitch Gonzales Trio

To say that music has fundamentally changed my life would be an understatement. I cannot remember a time where I did not have a rhythm to my step, a lyric on my mind, or a song in my heart. I have decided to take these impulses and pursue my dream: to create the most expressive and unique material I can possibly make.

The first experimentation period began in 2007 with every amateur musician's favorite program, Garageband. Hundreds of recordings later, my first attempts at professional recording came in 2009 with a few long sessions at KBC Records, a wonderful analog studio in my parents' neighborhood run by the amazing Shay Scott. The result: Jip Opus, a 7-song LP that was much more of a litmus test to studio work than a true album. I played all the instruments myself and oversaw as many aspects of production as I could, soaking up every detail. I was so pleased with the product that I went back for more in 2010 and recorded a 3-song EP called ElliPsis...that I never really released. I had moved to a different city and was caught up in my schoolwork, sadly the forward momentum drew to a grinding halt.

But the fire has rekindled. I'm constantly writing material and improving old material. Not only have I started booking gigs again but I've also branched out into commercial work, writing songs for radio programs and promotional videos. My passion has wholeheartedly returned, and I am prepared to do everything possible to continue my initial goal of bringing original music back to the masses.

About Caliko

The cascading harmonies of powerhouse vocalist duo Caliko have a hypnotising effect on audiences. New, but already noted by NPR's tiny desk, they have been leaving a trail of stunned onlookers at festivals and shows this year. They opened for Amos Lee in portland Oregon this past summer. And were one of 3 finalists in the john Lennon songwriting contest. Portland singer songwriters AC Sapphire & Kendall Lujan have harmonies that wash audiences in a swirling vortex of song. In a typical harmony, singers will choose an octave to contribute that completes the arrangement. In Caliko both singers have a vocal range that allows them to exchange highs and lows, and they'll often switch between those in the same song. The resulting wall of sound collapses the critical ear and allows anyone within earshot to float in their wall of sound. Individually the two are already renowned songwriters and guitar players, combined they are Caliko - complementary co-writers on a huge spectrum of sound, from alt-rock, to doo-wop, to indie, to folk-rock . AC Sapphire's band was the winner of Relix Magazine sonic showdown, and Kendall Lujan embarked on a European Tour this past summer. Having her music video for "forget me knots" featured on MTV. Look out for these incredible woman joining forces and joining voices.

About Trashcan Joe
2-step / Blues / Jazz

“Trashcan Joe is a marvel, a wonder that defies categorization in any sort of contemporary setting.” Don Campbell, The Oregonian

Trashcanjo n. [trash kan jo] A banjo made out of a trashcan. Ideology based on maximum musical output from recycled minimum input. Coffee brewed in a trash can.

Soaring vocal harmonies and modern song writing set in a soundscape harkening to the early jazz era; Trashcan Joe has a unique sound with a broad appeal. The fact that the instruments are made from recycled and found objects is quickly lost to their stellar musicianship. It’s no wonder they are a steadily working live band and have performed at events such as Pickathon, Burning Man, Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Live Wire, The Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle, Oregon Country Fair, and were the house band at the Candidates Gone Wild at the Roseland Theater.

Trashcan Joe also has soundtrack work on the resumé. They scored the music for the Aurora award winning OPB special Zig-Zag which explores the stories of several Portland area commuters. Later came the feature motion picture Lipstick and Dynamite, which chronicles the history of women’s wrestling and includes TJoe music as part of the soundtrack. TCJ was well received at NYC’s 2008 Tribeca Film Festival in the film “The Auteur.” Most recently they licensed music for a TV commercial by American Family Insurance.
Cap’n James Cook is vocals and creator of the Trashcanjo, the Trashcan Bass, the Tuborgan, and the Can o’ PA. The beloved founder has written more songs than you and your three best friends combined. He is a former member of the Wags, and current member of Ipanemia.
Jason Wells is vocals, cornet, zob stick, and lead extrovert. He is the composer of some of Tjoe’s most memorable songs. While his cornet isn’t actually made from a trash can, he claims to affect a “trashy style”. A member of March Fourth Marching Band, and engineer of Trashcan Joe recordings, at his studio Audiowells.

Mike Danner is vocals, accordion, melodica, a tuborgan honey-voiced singer, and a slick jazz accordionist. Mike was featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Art Beat; performs solo and with his band Velvida Underground. He has an Accordion Crimes website that features duets with Portland’s premier songwriters.

Yascha Noonberg is trashcan bass, and vocals. In his the band Calynco, he is the master of the steel drum. In Trashcan Joe he is the master of a much more refined instrument, the steel trashcan bass. A true musical alchemist, Yascha can turn garbage into gold at will. The owner of Starfish Studios, he records and teaches some of Portland’s best musicians, all while making bubbling and gurgling noises.

Trashcan Joe is what you have, and that is more than enough – Joe
