Come join us as we (and you) host another in our ongoing series, Singing for Sanity. A reminder that after Thanksgiving we'll be making two changes: moving indoors to the Unitarian Church at 6900 Stenton Ave, Philadelphia; and we'll move to a 5:30 to 6:30 time slot, and hope that even more of you will be able to attend that later time.
This coming Wednesday we're thrilled to have back Meghan Cary and Peter Farrell. Her music has been hailed as healing, inspiring and infectiously joyful. Named Billboard’s “Critic’s Choice” for her debut EP, the stage actress turned folk rocker engages listeners with masterful storytelling and anthemic songs. A frequent performer at such venerable festivals as Philadelphia Folk Festival and music venues around the country, Cary's message of unity and the power of raising our voices together infuses every show, and her song, “Sing Louder”, has become an anthem for the music-loving community.
Next we're exciting to hear Lauren Cristella who will speak about the urgent issues of redistricting and the importance of voting for PA Supreme Court Judges. Lauren’s passion for civic engagement and effective leadership led her to Committee of Seventy. In 2023, she became its first female President & CEO in the organization’s 120-year history. Under her leadership, C70 received the American Bar Association’s Unsung Heroes of Democracy Award in 2024. Lauren has also been recognized as a 2025 Woman of Influence by the Philadelphia Business Journal, 2024 Rad Girl Nonprofit Leader of the Year, and one of Philadelphia Magazine’s 150 Most Influential Philadelphians in 2023 and 2024.
She serves on the steering committee of Innovate Chester County, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Judicial Commission, and the boards of the Forum of Executive Women and Benchmark School. Lauren is also a past president and current board member of the League of Women Voters of Philadelphia.
Lauren holds an MA in Ethics, Politics, and Public Policy from the University of Essex. She lives in Mt. Airy with her husband, two children, and their dog, Kelce, after nearly two decades in South Philadelphia.
As always, we'll have an action item as well as our usual list of hopeful news, much needed in these dismal days.
Be sure to grab a drink or snack from the remarkably wonderful High Point Cafe, who give our community a home.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
