Dive into the wonders of nature at OAKtoberfest in beautiful Flossmoor! Saturday, Oct. 4, will be a full day of celebrating nature and community spirit with activities for all ages.
Join us in Flossmoor Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a day of community connection and nature-focused fun. Begin your day with a Guided Tree Walk at 10 a.m. with the Village Arborist. Enjoy interactive workshops and demonstrations focused on sustainable living, organic gardening, native plantings, and more, presented by a variety of local and regional partners. Children can take part in hands-on nature-themed activities and crafts, along with rock climbing, a bubble performer, and face painting. The event will also feature a Possibility Place native plant sale, engaging educational opportunities, and storytime with the Flossmoor Public Library for young nature lovers. Participants will include the Flossmoor Green Commission, Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, Gather & Moss, Flossmoor Public Art Commission, Thorn Creek Audubon Society, Urban Canopy, Wild Plum and the University of Illinois Extension.
Between the daytime and evening events, join the Flossmoor Public Art Commission at 1 p.m. for a walking sculpture tour, starting at the colorful William O'Brien sculptures at the corner of Flossmoor Road and Vardon Place in Flossmoor Park. Take a stroll and learn about the public art collection in your Village!
Next as the sun sets, join us for an evening of fun at the OAKtoberfest Music Festival, taking place from 4-9 p.m. in the South Commuter Lot, just south of Flossmoor Road at Sterling Avenue. Enjoy a lively mix of music, including sets by DJ Emilio, ReTurn2Soul and the Ring of Music Band & Orchestra, along with food and beverages from a variety of local vendors and food trucks under the OAKtoberfest party tent. Gather around the bonfire (weather permitting), and catch college football games on outdoor TVs. Don't miss the silent auction of plein-air paintings, showing scenes from Flossmoor parks.
New this year: Sign up with a friend for the Flossmoor Service League's OAKtoberfest Bags Tournament, running from 5-7 p.m.! It’s the perfect way to celebrate fall with friends, family and neighbors.
