Join us for a six-week literary adventure as we delve into the lives and imaginations of two of the most influential writers of the 20th centuryβC.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Through an in-depth exploration of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Hobbit, weβll uncover how myth, friendship, and imagination shaped their writing and the worlds they created.

This course is more than just reading great books. At SEER, we emphasize hands-on learning, lively discussion and debate, and creative activities that bring literature to life. Students will:
Discover how myth and storytelling shape cultures and worldviews
Explore key theories about the role and power of myth
Learn what inspired Lewis and Tolkienβand how they inspired each other
Develop a deeper understanding of story structure and theme
Create and share their own myth-inspired stories
Perfect for budding writers, young philosophers, and lovers of fantasy, this class encourages students to think critically, imagine boldly, and write passionately. Come explore the roots of storyβand grow your own.
This is a wonderful opportunity to explore a some of our favorite authors and make new friends!
Reading the books is recommended but it isn't necessary to enjoy the class.
We have a list of recommendations to enhance this study at home that you will receive in October.
Pre-Requisites:
We will do a little writing, so some level of comfort with writing is encouraged, but we are committed to meeting children wherever they are and are happy to make accommodations where needed.
Fees:
This class will meet for six sessions. Each lesson will build upon itself. Class fees are $100 per student with a 30% sibling discount available.

Maximum class size is 14 students.
You can sign up for our entire Thursday class block which has an included lunch period from 10:00-12:30pm. We offer a Middler club on Thursday afternoon as well.
