Alan Hope’s special recognition event at the The Prince Arthur, Wetherspoons in Fleet on Monday 16th June from 7pm
😀Alan is a good friend: we served together on FTC for a good few years and he’s still an active and involved Fleet Councillor. He still helpfully raises queries on behalf of residents. His political views are of course ‘interesting’ and he’s a constant source of great stories.
It is Alan’s 83rd birthday 🥳 on 16th June and it is also exactly 43 years since Alan Hope founded the The Official Monster Raving Loony Party with Screaming Lord Sutch on 16th June 1982 at Alan’s 40th birthday celebration in Devon. It will also be 20 years in June 2025 when Alan Hope moved to Fleet and the Prince Arthur became his regular pub — 5000+ visits later he is still here.
In June 1999 Alan Hope became the Leader of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, a position he has held for 26 years, Alan Hope is the all time longest serving Leader of a British Political Party. 👏
Alan Hope has been a Fleet Town Councillor for 15 years (first elected in May 2010).
Alan Hope stood in a Parliamentary Election against David Cameron 15 years ago and
also stood against Boris Johnson 10 years ago.
Alan Hope’s Winning Co-ALE-ition beer was brewed 10 years ago and was on sale at the Prince Arthur.
Alan Hope has now stood in 36 Parliamentary elections all for one party (Official Monster Raving Loony Party); this is an all time British record.
Alan Hope stood as a candidate at the Runcorn & Helsby By Election in May 2025. It is 42 years since Alan Hope first stood at a Parliamentary Election in 1983. Alan Hope has stood in 26 By Elections in the last 26 years (1999 to 2025) which is another British record.
Nb - never one to miss an opportunity, I understand Alan Hope’s autobiography (which even features a mention from me) was published 5 years ago in April 2020 and personal signed copies will be available on the night for £10.
