Dr. Alice Christie earned her Ph.D. in Language and Literacy and Educational Technology and is the Founder and Executive Director of Tynkertopia, Inc., a nonprofit STEAM Community Center in Flagstaff, Arizona. An award-winning educator, Dr. Christie has dedicated her career to empowering children, youth, and families through creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Guided by the family motto “service above self,” she has built Tynkertopia into a vibrant hub where learners of all ages develop critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills while preparing for the real-world challenges of the 21st century.
With a lifelong passion for education and equity, Dr. Christie has been recognized for her leadership in advancing accessible and inclusive learning opportunities. Under her direction, Tynkertopia has grown from a grassroots vision into a cornerstone of the community, providing free programs, youth workforce development initiatives, and partnerships that foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Her work continues to inspire the next generation of learners, innovators, and leaders.
Tynkertopia has served over 10,000 children aged 0-13 and their families each year since its inception in 2018, and has twice been named Best Place to Take Kids by the Arizona Daily Sun. Dr. Alice, as most kids and adults in Flagstaff call her, has recently expanded the organization’s impact with the creation of Tynkertopia MakerSpace, a second facility dedicated to teens and young adults. This innovative space equips youth with future-ready skills in technology, digital fabrication, and creative problem-solving, preparing them for success in higher education and the 21st-century workforce.
