BYOB and your chair
Detroit singer-songwriter Mike Ward is known for his lyrically-centric, vocally-charged folk songs. Born in the 50’s, grew up in the 60’s, came of age in the 70’s, with all the consciousness-raising and awareness of the world colliding around him (both good and bad). Mike sang protest songs, wrote a couple, sat-in at sit-ins, marched, volunteered, and was always involved when the rights of others were at stake. Social awareness music influences have been Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Marvin Gaye and Joan Baez. His own songs offer a dose of self-deprecating humor in the way John Prine, Louden Wainwright III and Christine Lavin approached their writing. Why Psychosongs? Well, his nickname as a hockey player is “PsychoWard”. Enough said.
"The Time That Remains" is bookended by 2 songs that are contemporary hymns for our time. This album is a collection of prayers, parables and pet peeves. Whether that first job, that first kiss or that first guitar, Mike takes each moment to create a thought-provoking perspective on the world around us. The album, as a whole, asks questions which allows the listener to consider their own answers. In the end the hope is that each
of us can become an instrument for good.
