Southwest Wisconsin Chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts is offering the second component of Burn School which includes outdoor equipment field training. This component is required to obtain certification of completion for The Prairie Enthusiasts’ prescribed burn crew member training.
If you took the online or live Burn School training at the TPE annual conference in the past, this second class will complete your training.
The 4 hour class will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2025 9am-1pm.
Burn School Instructors from the Empire Sauk & South West Wisconsin Chapters of The Prairie Enthusiasts, will assist participants to learn about and practice use of various hand tools and other equipment commonly used for prescribed burns in the Upper Midwest.
Alternate date is Saturday, March 21. If weather permits there will be opportunity for attendees to stay after lunch and participate in their first apprenticeship burn at the same location.

Required Personal Safety Gear-
Leather boots – 6” high tops minimum.
Leather work gloves, clothing of non-synthetic natural fibers or aramid fibers (e.g., Nomex). Long sleeved shirts & long pants are required, and pants must not be frayed (especially around the ankles
Hardhat or Hat –
Hats must be non-synthetic natural fibers only. Long hair must be covered.
