90 years ago - on the 5th November 1935 - the Folly Tower was officially opened - to national fanfare and fireworks - and a full page in the Tatler Magazine?
SO - On Saturday 8th November, from 5pm to 7pm, let’s fill our Folly Woodland with thousands of magical twinkling fairy lights (& fireflies if you can get them! ) .
All ages welcome, especially those born in 1935 or 2025 – or any of the years in between! Woodland Wildlife - join in the celebrations – including dogs and humans… Leprechauns, pixies, elves, hobbits and gnomes – step into the magic… Why not also bring your human-powered vehicles – bicycles, pushchairs, rickshaws - draped in fairy lights? And yes – you can also bring Effigies – as long as you have no more than six!
There will be an all-comers PINK PARADE – for EVERYONE (so – dress in PINK), and story-telling, and songs of the thirties, and hobbitty hot drinks, and childrens’ activities, and delicious treats… And the Tower itself will of course be lit in shimmering PINK - to mark its 90th birthday!
SO – what is the DRESS CODE - I hear you ask? Well - first and foremost – FESTOONED IN FAIRY LIGHTS. Secondly: anything PINK. And then anything on the theme of Berners: BOWLER HATS, UMBRELLAS, GIRAFFES, PIGEONS …
Come one, come all, to the Folly’s grand fête,
A parade of pink dreams, we simply can’t wait!
With lanterns aglow and costumes divine,
We’ll twinkle and trot in a jubilant line.
From flamingo fanfare to rosy delight,
Let’s light up the hill in a tower of light!
