Day two of the Voices of Dyslexia Conference is an intense, hands-on workshop designed for educators and parents who want to transform how they teach math. It is a day to collaborate, plan lessons, ask questions and explore new strategies with expert guidance. Walk away with ready-to-use strategies, fresh lesson plans, and the confidence to help every student thrive in math.
Info: As we examine applications of the Science of Learning and Evidence Based Instructional Strategies, we will look at applications in supporting grade level instruction by using interleaving and review to provide a solid basis for new content. By linking foundation skills to grade level content, we can better prepare students for success and proficiency as they progress through increasingly more complex content. We will examine core tools for engaging students, and scaffolding instruction with success in mind as we transition students through the vertical hierarchy of math.
Our first presentation will demonstrate our core instructional strategies for multisensory instruction at a variety of instructional levels. Each core strategy demonstration will model how to facilitate comprehension at a foundational level, the middle grades level, and at secondary levels of math.
Info: This instructional planning tool forces the teacher to think about which foundation skills or unfinished learning must be addressed prior to beginning grade-level content. The teacher will then provide interleaved or remedial instruction. The sequence of the lesson plan offers multiple opportunities for informal assessments and diagnostic teahcing. It supports any curriculum.
Info: Cold sandwiches, chips, dessert, and beverages will be waiting for you!
Info: The afternoon will provide opportunities to work with fellow grade band participants in designing lessons, writing lesson plans, planning scaffolded introductions, sharing practice with manipulatives, asking presenter questions, and guided collaborative practice for implemenation of a conceptual foundation. Bring questions, problematic content, instructional difficulties, and curruculum applications to share and grow together.
