A History of Hip Hop

Join us for a special conversation event charting hip hop’s first five decades — from its birth in the block parties of the Bronx and its Jamaican roots, to the rise of gangsta rap and today’s global artists. Explore how this cultural revolution in music, dance and art spread worldwide and took on a unique identity in the UK, particularly among Afro-Caribbean communities.

Speakers include musicians, historians, and cultural researchers, who will bring to life the music, politics, and social impact of hip hop. Come ready to listen, learn, and share your own questions.
