The Kintz-Mejia Academy of Ballet (KMAB) presents “The Snow Queen” based on an original fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Adapted into a ballet with original choreography by KMAB Director Mark Mejia the story follows the journey of a brave girl named Gerda who sets out to rescue her best friend Kai after he is bewitched and taken away by the Snow Queen. The story begins with an evil mirror created by a troll that distorts reality and when shards of it get lodged in Kai’s heart and eye he becomes cold and cruel. He is eventually abducted by the Snow Queen to her icy palace in the far north. Gerda undeterred by obstacles and dangers embarks on a long and magical journey encountering various characters who help her along the way. Her love and persistence ultimately break the Snow Queen’s spell freeing Kai and restoring his heart and together they return home transformed by their adventure.
Performances are on Saturday June 7 at 7:30 pm and Sunday June 8 at 2:00 pm at Meridian High School 121 Mustang Alley Falls Church VA 22043.
