Fairfax Theatre Company presents "The Koh-i-Noor Diamond, A Trial (A Young King, Two Queens, and a Royal Crime)"
The world’s most famous diamond is alleged to have been taken by force from India’s Sikh Nation in 1849 by the East India Company and given to Queen Victoria. Now, centuries later, the British Crown is facing a challenge to the acquisition of the gem and a call to return it to its rightful owners. This new and original play, penned and directed by FTC’s Artistic Director, Sam M Parry, presents a fictional trial based on historical facts. Hear expert testimony and witnesses, including Queen Victoria herself, the young Sikh Maharaja, his mother Maharani Jindan Kaur, and other central characters of the time.
Don’t miss the world premier of this riveting courtroom drama, wherein the audience will represent the jury and be tasked to reach a verdict: “Should the gem be returned? Or was it a ‘gift’ as alleged?”
