Celebrating Art from 50 years of Toolik Field Station

Celebrate art inspired by 50 years of Arctic research from the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Toolik Field Station. Join Toolik staff from UAF's Institute of Arctic Biology and past Toolik artists at Black Spruce Brewing’s First Friday this August 1 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

For 50 years, Toolik Field Station, nestled in the northern foothills of the Brooks Range, has been a leading site for place-based Arctic research. The station has hosted thousands of scientists, artists, and educators seeking to understand the tundra's ecology within a rapidly changing environment.

Artwork will showcase varying interpretations of the station’s science and surrounding landscape. The show will include works from past Toolik artists, like watercolorist Michael Boardman, tile artist Nancy Hausle Johnson, science illustrator Kristin Link, painter David Mollett, artist Ree Nancarrow, painter Iris Sutton, and more.
