Cobram Football Netball Club together with Congupna Football Netball Club is holding a fundraiser on the 23rd of August for The Type 1 Foundation in support of Alice Lebner who was diagnosed in February this year with Type 1 Diabetes. Players will purchase a pair of Type 1 Foundation socks with all Cobram grades alongside Congupna Senior grades wearing these.
Alice plays in under 11’s netball team for the Cobram Tigers, being diagnosed with this lifelong auto immune disease has completely changed Alice and her family’s lives. Alice has shown incredible strength and resilience, adapting to her new normal, we do hope that in the future a cure for Type 1 Diabetes is found.
• Alice had all 4 signs of Type 1 Diabetes – Tired, very thirsty, weight loss and going to the toilet more frequently. We were aware of these /signs due to having very close family friends who have kids with Type 1 Diabetes, I don’t think we would have known what to look out for if we didn’t have personal connections to Type 1 diabetes.
For the first 5 months Alice was giving herself a minimum of 4 injections daily, which is huge for a 10-year-old. Alice is now on an insulin pump, this has eliminated 28 injections a week, her pump is attached to her 24/7, the only time this is removed is for netball training and when she is playing netball on Saturdays.
The day will include individual game awards, Raffles, Type1 Awareness, Merchandise heaps more!
