ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
DAVID NAIL -
"My father was a band director for 31 years and he listened to all sorts of music, including a lot of old-school Elton John. I just loved the big, lush feel of those records," David explains. "Glen Campbell was a huge influence on me for the same reason: the arrangements, the elaborate production, the dramatic songs. Those influences all come out in what I do."
David's hits include his debut single, "Red Light," as well as "Let It Rain" and "Whatever She's Got." He received an Academy of Country Music nomination for Single Record of the Year for "Red Light" and scored a Grammy nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for the song "Turning Home."
"I don't want somebody to think I'm a great singer because I can sing a Stevie Wonder hit and do all the licks," he says modestly. "I want to find songs that I can sing effortlessly. And by 'effortlessly,' I mean emotionally, not technically. There's a difference between singing a song on key, and singing a song that makes a person instantly feel something."
David is committed to releasing his brand of mature country music—songs that are built around personal stories, transcendent vocals and a sense of class.
"That will always be the basis of what I do on a record and what I try to do live. If you're looking to get rowdy and hear a lot of screaming and hollering, you'll be disappointed," he says with a laugh.
BRANDON LAY -
Brandon Lay is a country singer/songwriter with a rock & roll spirit and a small-town heart who grew up in Jackson , Tennessee.
He lived out the songs of John Mellencamp, Alan Jackson and Bruce Springsteen. He played sports during the day, fixed up cars after school and eventually wrote down his experiences in song, telling not only his story, but the story of other kids raised in small town America. Now signed to EMI Records Nashville, he's able to share those songs on a grand scale, beginning with his autobiographical debut single "Speakers, Bleachers and Preachers." "Between going to church and playing sports, there was always a lesson to be learned," says Brandon. "And country music lyrics are all about life lessons. All of that helped me figure out who I am in the world and what I wanted to do."country is the only genre I wanted to be a part of. Being where I'm from, I understand it, and I think most Americans can relate because it is so specific. The most satisfying feeling as a songwriter is when people come up and say, 'I know exactly what you meant in that line.' Country does that like no other genre." " Brandon says. "My goal: for listeners to know that every line I'm singing, I've lived, and for them to find their own story in my songs."
LEIGH CAPPILLINO from POINT OF GRACE will be performing along with her talented daughter DARBY!
