It's hard to imagine a better way to spend a day on the trail than on this 9-mile hike atop the world (or at least North Carolina). This hike has Sound of Music/Hills are Alive moments, it's got endless views, it's got a waterfall, it's got passage through a balsam fir forest, it's got the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. And for a mountain hike that's mostly between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, it's not all that hard, gaining about 1,100 vertical feet in just under 9 miles, earning it a moderate/moderately strenuous rating.
