Hosted by Video Music Box’s “Uncle” Ralph McDaniels, this show is a nostalgic trip through hip-hop’s past. It’s headlined by Rakim, indisputably one of the greatest MCs of all time, whose early work with Eric B. helped push the artform forward with intricate multisyllabic and internal rhyme schemes, a metronome flow, and an unforgettable voice. He’ll bring classic cuts like “Follow the Leader,” “I Ain’t No Joke,” and “Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em” to Stapleton Waterfront Park on Staten Island, as well as solo work like “Guess Who’s Back.” He’s joined by Positive K, the Bronx rapper from First Priority Music best known for his 1992 hit “I Got a Man” and his duet with MC Lyte “I’m Not Havin’ It”; Sweet Tee, the Queens rapper of the hit song “It’s My Beat” with DJ Jazzy Joyce; Joe Ski Love, the rapper best known for his platinum-selling, Peewee Herman-sampling 1986 single “Pee Wee’s Dance”; Nice & Smooth, the Bronx duo who flipped a guest spot on Big Daddy Kane’s “Pimpin Ain’t Easy” into a string of albums in the ‘90s; and DJ Chubby Chub, the Bronx-born DJ who’s toured with 50 Cent and holds down multiple radio shows in Boston.
