About the event

Are You Ready for a Wisconsin Adventure?
Join us in celebration of legendary Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax’s birthday for a one-of-a-kind game of chance and mystery inspired by the world’s most famous tabletop roleplaying experience! During Are You Ready for a Wisconsin Adventure?, venture down State Street in pursuit of clues to end the terror of the Beast of Bray Road.

A strange creature has been frightening the good folk of Madison... some say it is an enormous wolf, others say it walks on two legs. All agree that it is terrifying to behold! The city’s mayor has put out an urgent call for heroes to track down the beast—will YOU be clever and strong enough to stop its reign of terror?

Tracking such a creature will be difficult, of course. If it is a werewolf, that could be anyone—your neighbor, your grocer, your best friend... even you. Brave the wilds of State Street and face the creature, if you dare!

Complete challenges as you prepare for the final trial at the Wisconsin Historical Society Headquarters—and be sure to keep your lucky D20 in your pocket just in case. Brave the path, achieve success, and reap your rewards, adventurers!

This experience can be kicked off anytime after 12 pm. However, with the adventure taking approximately an hour, adventures should anticipate starting by 3 pm at the latest. Due to the unique nature and location of this fun-filled event, please review the “Know Before You Go” section for additional event information and planning considerations.

From the starting location to the ending location, participants can anticipate the adventure taking approximately an hour. However, the Adventure is what individual groups make of it and therefore the length of participation will vary by group, the number of Clue Stations each group visits, how long groups are at each respective Clue Station, and if additional stops are made.

Participants are encouraged to start the event by 3 pm to ensure their arrival at the Wisconsin Historical Society Headquarters building by 4 pm for the final trial.

One doesn’t need to know about Dungeons & Dragons or Wisconsin Adventures to participate in this experience—just be willing to join in the all-ages fun as you complete this unique adventure. All gameplay materials will be provided during the event.

The adventure takes place on paved terrain but does involve a minimal number of stairs and steps along the way. Comfortable shoes for walking are strongly recommended.

Adventurers are encouraged to bring water with them and wear sun protection. Although clue stations will predominantly be located inside businesses, event participants will be moving about outdoors, and shade will vary. In case of inclement weather, consider bringing an umbrella.
