The Dawdon Mine Water Treatment Scheme, is an innovative project designed to protect a vital drinking water from contamination. The scheme uses an active treatment plant to prevent the mine water from rising through open shafts or faults and contaminating the East Durham aquifer, which provides drinking water to Sunderland and surrounding areas.
We'll tour the mine water treatment site and explore how it also serves as a renewable energy source, with the mine water's heat being used to warm the treatment plant and potentially heat nearby properties, like the Seaham Garden Village.
You are then welcome to come back to the Arts Cafe at Community House, Yoden Road, Peterlee, SR85DP for food and discussion.
The Dawdon Minewater Treatment Plant is located on land adjacent to the A182 on the Fox Cover Industrial Estate in Dawdon.
Also check out other Arts events in Willow Street.
Tickets for 10:30am Dawdon mine water tour can be booked here.
