About the event

"From Evansville to Giverny & Back Again: The Life & Art of Theodore Robinson" In-Person Badger Talk
This is a free, in-person talk on October 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM hosted by the Evansville Grove Society. Registration will be available on the website: https://www.grovesociety.org/calendar-2/

Often regarded as one of America’s foremost impressionist painters, Theodore Robinson spent his formative years in Evansville, Wisconsin. After receiving formal artistic training in Chicago, New York, and Paris, his style matured in the town of Giverny, France. Best known as the home of Claude Monet, this town and his experiences there inspired Robinson to experiment with light and color and embrace the techniques associated with impressionism. This talk will discuss Robinson’s life, influences, and place in the history of American art.

Janine Yorimoto Boldt is the Collection Reinstallation Project Associate at the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, where she is involved in planning the comprehensive reinstallation of the permanent collection. Previously, she was the Associate Curator of American Art at the Chazen and a Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at the American Philosophical Society. She holds a PhD in American Studies from William & Mary and specializes in early American art. Recent curatorial projects include re:mancipation (2023) and Resource & Ruin: Wisconsin’s Enduring Landscape (2022). Her scholarship on early American art and culture has been published by Winterthur Portfolio, American Art, Panorama, the American Philosophical Society, and the DAR Museum.
