What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It’s a day of reflection, celebration, and progress for Black communities across the country.
