Escritura geológica y construcción de mundos: conversación y taller con Gabriela Damián Miravete
Acompañe al Departamento de Español y Portugués de la Universidad Northwestern en una conversación y taller de escritura con la galardonada autora mexicana Gabriela Damián Miravete.
Este evento -en español- girará en torno al interés de la autora por temas como la ciencia ficción, la literatura especulativa y la construcción de mundos. Se establecerán conexiones entre escritores latinxs históricos y contemporáneos, a través de la relación entre temas recurrentes como la magia, la fantasía y los viajes en el tiempo en el boom literario de los años 60 y la obra de escritores contemporáneos como Damián. La primera mitad de la sesión consistirá en un conversatorio sobre dos cuentos de Damián titulados "Espanto del mundo nuevo" y "El taller de enmiendas y reparaciones", moderado por el profesor adjunto de Literatura Mexicana y Latinoamericana, Alfonso Fierro.
La conversación seguirá con un ejercicio de escritura creativa de construcción de mundos la cual guiará a los participantes a través de algunos métodos y temas presentes en la obra de la autora.

Geological Writing and World-Building: Conversation and Workshop with Gabriela Damián Miravete
Join Northwestern University’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese for a conversation and writing workshop with Mexico-based award winning author, Gabriela Damián Miravete.
This Spanish-language event will focus on the author’s interest in science-fiction, speculative literature, and world-building. Connections will be made between Latinx writers of the past and present through recurrent topics like magic, fantasy and time travel in the Boom literature of the 1960s and the work of contemporary writers like Damián. The first half of the session will be a discussion of two of Damián’s short stories "Espanto del mundo nuevo" and "El taller de enmiendas y reparaciones" moderated by Assistant Professor of Mexican and Latin American Literature, Alfonso Fierro.
The conversation will be followed by a creative writing exercise in collective world-building introducing participants to some of the methods and themes in the author’s work through a hands-on activity.

The 12th annual Lit & Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art—as featured in, WBEZ’s Reset with Sasha-Ann Simons, Chicago Review of Books, Block Club Chicago, and more—takes place November 9 to November 14, 2025.
