Whatever you want to call it, for the last decade this collaborative ensemble has been gaining fans by making story-songs, prayers to the natural world, songs that reflect the interconnectedness of all things, and the dance of light and shadow in the Universe.The lyrics are driven by massive grooves fused with electric English folk, a wave of acoustic and electric guitar, two basses, drums, and percussion. Featuring Mark Sandmans rich, low vocals and ground-breaking two-string slide-bass style, accompanied only by baritone saxophone and drums, Morph*ne stands to this day as a rock-and-roll trail-blazer in a world where guitar-driven bands have historically dominated. Sandmans untimely death on-stage from a heart-attack in 1999 further cemented Morphines enduring legend and mystique among their global fan-base.
