Bring your lawn chair to the alley behind jazz guitarist Donovan Mixon's home at 1135 Cleveland Street in Evanston on Tuesday, August 12 at 7pm. You will be treated to an evening of jazz presented by a quartet of the Chicago region's finest jazz players.
They will perform in the actual Donovan's Garage, now a practice studio in Donovan's garage.
The audience will gather in the alley behind 1135 Cleveland Street. As with all the Donovan's Garage events, it is free (with donations cheerfully accepted.)
Here is who you will hear in the garage next Tuesday:
*David Onderdonk, Guitar: Well known in Chicago jazz circles, Onderdonk has played at venues such as Andy’s, The Green Mill, and The Jazz Showcase.
*Donovan Mixon, Guitar: A long-time Evanstonian, Mixon has shared the stage with artists that include Lee Konitz and Eddie Henderson, as well as Chicago’s Robert Irving III, Willie Pickens and Ernest Dawkins.
*Geoff Lowe, Bass: Over the course of his long career, Lowe has performed with artists that include Ben E. King, the Shirelles, the Platters, and many more.
*Steve Corley, Percussion: A key figure in the Chicago jazz scene and familiar to jazz fans in Evanston, Corley is a member of the Chris Greene Quartet, voted Chicago’s best jazz band in a Chicago Reader poll.
This is going to be fun. Bring a few friends.
