White Light/White Noise
Art Opening featuring work by Daniel Nickerson
Saturday August 2nd, 6-9pm, during Arts Alive
at Uncoded Studio, 524 5th St, Eureka
"White Light/White Noise" is a multimedia project by Daniel Nickerson, an artist who lives and works in the Eel River Valley of central Humboldt County. Combining illustrations, music, and narrative storytelling, the project has been undertaken to honor the passing of the artist's friend and collaborator, composer Brandon Becker.
The project is centered around a recording of an experimental composition titled "White Light/White Noise," written and recorded by Nickerson in 2014. The recording prominently features the sound of Becker playing an organ throughout, contributing a slowly shifting drone that the layered tapestry of the music weaves around.
This audio recording will be presented alongside a series of illustrations and written narratives that explore the impact of sound, sensation, music and memory. The opening will conclude with a 30-minute performance version, beginning at 8:30pm.
