Preservation Bootcamp: Passive Wood Floor Restoration
Dates: August 8–10 and November 7–9
Time: Friday–Sunday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Location: The Auditorium Basement, Eureka Springs, AR
Learn the art of passive wood floor restoration in this hands-on, three-day Preservation Bootcamp series. Designed for homeowners, contractors, preservation enthusiasts, and anyone passionate about historic spaces, this workshop teaches you how to restore wood floors without aggressive sanding—preserving their original character and patina.
Under the leadership of Paul Sutherland, Eureka Springs Building Inspector with over 30 years of experience in building and restoration, and Trevor Halladay, a preservation specialist, all under the guidance of nationally renowned preservationist Bob Yapp, participants will gain valuable skills in traditional repair techniques, including:
Seamless patching of damaged boards
Gentle finish removal techniques
Treating stains + color matching
Applying historically appropriate finishes
This immersive course is limited in size to ensure direct instruction and plenty of hands-on time. Participants will work on real flooring in the historic Auditorium, gaining practical experience from start to finish.
This is a physical workshop—expect to get dirty! Please bring work gloves, eye protection, and knee pads. Pack your lunch.
Whether you're preserving your own home or contributing to a larger preservation effort, this bootcamp will equip you with skills, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship of the past.
