Join us on Thursday, 17 July 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene, 1685 W 13th Ave, Eugene OR 97402, to listen to Richie Steffen of Elisabeth Miller Botanical Garden. Richie will be presenting "Obsessed: The Journey of a Plant Collector".
Richie Steffen loves plants, although his friends may say this is an understatement. Over the last 40 years he has grown tens of thousands of plants and is still looking for more. From his early days as a retail nursery worker to this long career in public gardens, Richie‘s experiences have put him in touch with many accomplished plants people who kindled his imagination and horticultural desire. See his obsession as he shares stories of the people and plants that influenced his gardening journey.
He is the executive director of the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden near Seattle, WA. His work at the Miller Garden began in the fall of 2000, and now he oversees the operations of the garden and its programs.
Richie also serves as the chair of the Great Plant Program. Great Plant Picks is an educational program committed to building a comprehensive palette of outstanding and reliable plants for maritime Pacific Northwest gardens. A noted lecturer, photographer and horticultural personality, Richie is the co-author and co-photographer of the Plant Lover’s Guide to Ferns.
