Louis Lowenstein, born in Cleveland and raised in Arizona, began his musical training at age 7 as a pianist, taking up the cello two years later. As a 13-year-old he was cello soloist with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra playing the Saint-Saens Concerto, and at 15 studied for 2 years with Gregor Piatigorsky at USC, Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, Louis first heard the great master of jazz improvisation, French violinist Stephane Grappelli, igniting a lifelong love of this tight-rope-walking art form sometimes referred to as “instantaneous composition”. Over the years, he has been fortunate to collaborate in performance and recordings with many fine jazz artists, including Marvin Hamlisch and Bobby McFerrin. Louis is a former longtime member of both the Chicago Symphony and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras.
Pianist and composer Andrew Cannestra is the grand prize winner of the 2021 Aeolian Classics Emerging Artist Competition. His debut album, Mystic Pool, was released in 2022, featuring one of his own compositions alongside works by Chopin, Dutilleux, Scriabin, and Still. In 2025, his second album will be released on the Naxos label uncovering rarely-heard works by Josef Wieniawski. As a soloist, he won the bronze medal in the 2024 Seattle International Piano Competition. He gave the Oregon premiere of the Amy Beach Piano Concerto with the University of Oregon Symphony as well as the world premiere of Ryan Johnston’s Piano Concerto no. 1 with Boston-based Horizon Ensemble. In addition, he has given recitals at some of Chicago’s premier venues such as Guarneri Hall and Ganz Hall, and he was featured as guest artist for the recital series Henry Fogel Presents. He also regularly collaborates as a chamber musician, duo partner and orchestral keyboardist, having recently performed at the Manchester Music Festival and Oregon Bach Festival. Andrew currently resides in Eugene, Oregon, where he teaches secondary piano at the University of Oregon while pursuing hi D. M. A. in piano performance, studying with Alexandre Dossin and David Riley. Outside of music, he enjoys fly fishing, hiking, Italian food, and spending time with his wife, fellow pianist Kaitlyn Clawson-Cannestra.
