Ron Bertucci and Olem Alves have been playing together for nearly 20-years as a Quintet, Quartet, Trio and even as a Duo. Ron Bertucci is retired from Lane Community College where he was Director of Instrumental Music & Jazz. At LCC Ron was conducting director of the Lane Chamber Orchestra, Lane Jazz Ensemble and Lane Symphonic Band. He is also the founding director of the Lane Jazz Festival …. Later to become the Oregon Jazz Festival with co-director Steve Owen. Ron is also retired from the Eugene Symphony after 37 years as a trombonist with that group as well as other “classical” ensembles including; Oregon Bach Festival, Eugene Festival of Musical Theatre, Eugene Brass Quintet, Oregon Mozart Players and more. He continues to stay active as a teaching musician coaching Jazz Combos and teaching trombone lessons at Lane. About playing jazz standards in a small group Bertucci says, “After a lifetime of playing inner harmonic material and counting hours of ‘rests’ in the back row of an orchestra, it’s just nice to finally get to play the melody”!

Olem Alves maintains a packed performance schedule and full teaching load! Olem regularly plays jazz around Eugene throughout the year working as a trio with Ryan Biesack and Tyler Abbott, doing solo gigs, quartet & quintet gigs and even plays as a duo with his daughter Esme singing standards. Olem’s teaching schedule is packed as well! Aside from teaching dozens of guitar lessons each week, he teaches a number of classes at LCC including Group Guitar, Jazz Improv, Jazz Combos and Music Fundamentals. Olem is featured as guitarist and vocalist with his group Inner Limits performing a great mix of original Rock/Blues/Funk tunes and great standards from those genre. The Inner Limits band has released several albums and currently features Torrey Newhart – keyboards and Ryan Biesack-drums.

Doug Doerfert is the Director of Ensembles at Lane Community College where he conducts the Lane Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and teaches Music Fundamentals. As one of the full-time faculty, Doug works with music teachers across Lane County as a liaison in recruiting and outreach. Doug also performs with the Lane Faculty Jazz Combo. Prior to working at LCC, Doug was a high school band director for 13 years, most recently at South Eugene High School. He was also the Musical/Artistic Director of the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra for several years. As an active performer, Doug has played trumpet with Eugene Composer’s Big Band, Jazz Station Monday Night Big Band, Jazz Kings, SHEDD Musical Theater productions, and the Ridgeline Brass Quintet. He has also performed with the Eugene Symphonic Band and the Oregon Brass Society. Doug received his Masters of Music in Wind Conducting from the University of New Mexico and his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Ryan Biesack is a drummer, percussionist and educator who maintains an active teaching and performing schedule in the jazz, rock and improvised music worlds. He holds both a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon. Biesack has been an instructor of music and drum set at Oregon State University since 2009, where he teaches drum set, The History of Rock & Roll, Reggae History, and directs the OSU Jazz Ensemble. Biesack has played professionally for over a decade, and has performed with Ron Miles, Hashem Assadullahi, Wayne Horvitz, Douglas Detrick, Ganesh Anandan, Konorak Reddy, Dylan Fowler, Halie Loren, Mile Denny and many others. In addition to being in demand locally as a performer and clinician, he has played and taught throughout the midwest, the west coast, New York City, India, South Korea and most recently in Nepal at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory. Biesack works with ensembles ranging in scope from straight-ahead and swinging to cutting edge, modern, improvised and new music. Some of Biesack's most recent playing can be heard with NYC based saxophonist Hashem Assadullahi’s Sextet, whose latest Origin Records release, “Pieces," features dynamic original jazz compositions performed by a stellar line-up of musicians, featuring the unparalleled Ron Miles on trumpet. Ryan is also a Crescent Cymbals Artist as of 2013.

Luke Hendrickson is currently a bass and jazz studies student at University of Oregon where he studies with Tyler Abbott. Luke plays out with a number of UO student groups and has recently been performing with Alves in a number of settings. Luke will be joining Bertucci & Alves on other gigs throughout the summer.

Nicolette D’Erazo, newest addition to the Bertucci/Alves group, is a wonderful vocalist with a lyrical and heartfelt style. Nicolette D'Erazo is from Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Having studied at Lane Community College, the University of Oregon, and completing a Songwriting and Music Business Degree at Berklee College of Music, her musical taste and abilities mold from choral music, jazz, and pop. She is currently a singer for the Central Presbyterian Church choir and actively pursuing a career path in jazz and gospel music. In her free time, Nicolette enjoys baking and making paper collages for friends.
