Join us for a chat with Christine Leunens (author of "Caging Skies" which inspired the movie "Jojo Rabbit") to celebrate her new novel.

The discussion will be held at Unity Bookshop, next to Place Jourdan. This is a seated event and will open with a welcoming drink. Attendees may purchase Christine Leunens’ books directly at the bookshop and have their copies signed. The panel will be chaired by Martin Petrov and will run for approximately one hour, followed by an audience Q&A.

A little bit more about Christine Leunens
Christine Leunens is a Belgian-New Zealand novelist. Her debut novel, Primordial Soup , published in the UK in 1999, was a critical success, receiving praise in The Times, The Sunday Times, Repubblica and Publishers Weekly. Caging Skies has become an international bestseller, whose French translation was nominated for the Prix Médicis Étranger and the Prix du Roman FNAC in 2007. Her next novel, A Can of Sunshine , was selected as 'Best Books of the Year 2013' in English worldwide by the NZ Herald. Over time Caging Skies was adapted to stage and film. Taika Waititi's film adaptation, Jojo Rabbit , was nominated in 2020 for two Golden Globes, six BAFTA Awards and six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It won a WGA Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and ultimately was selected as one of WGA's 101 greatest screenplays of the 21st Century. It also won the Humanitas Prize for writing intended to promote human dignity, meaning and freedom. Both the book and film were nominated for the USC Scripter Award 2020 and won AFI Awards for their contribution to America's Cultural Legacy. In Amber's Wake , first published in New Zealand in 2022, became a bestseller with a film adaptation currently in advanced development. Leunens was awarded a UNESCO - Prague City of Literature Residency to work on a new historical novel at the Franz Kafka House in the spring of 2023. Her novels have been translated into twenty-five languages.


About Martin Petrov - Director of IFFG Festival in Glasgow

Martin I. Petrov is a film festival professional, strategist and film events specialist. He is the founder and festival director at International Film Festival Glasgow (IFFG), established in 2014. He is a member of the European Film Academy since 2020.His work includes annual presence at the largest film markets (EFM, Marchè Du Film Cannes, Venice Production Bridge) and film events in the UK, Europe, and the USA. With long experience in film curation, Martin also works closely with distributors and young creators, tailoring festival strategies for independent filmmakers.Martin has long standing partnerships and collaborations with festivals, platforms and film media with global outreach. He is the co-owner and director of Lately Productions, a London based production company, currently developing multiple fiction and documentary projects.
