About the event

Adventure in the Cohuttas on Jack's River Trail
GUTS is hosting a cool run - more like an adventure - through the Cohuttas on Jack's River Trail. Plan for an all day outing with the drive taking at least 2.5 hours from Atlanta, with the last 30 minutes on partially maintained dirt roads.

This moderately difficult trail is the roadbed of an old railroad and is the longest and wettest trail in the Cohutta Wilderness. The run will be a lollipop-loop of approximately 17 miles. The trail includes many, many water crossings (35+) and can sometimes be hard to follow, so always stay with another runner; no runner will be left behind. Everyone should bring a means to carry and/or purify water and expect wet feet for most of the run. GUTS will provide limited refreshments so please bring something for afterwards.

This will be a memorable experience, truly in the wilderness, so we recommend only experienced trail runners take on this challenge. You may also want to carpool. We welcome any questions as we want this to be an opportunity for GUTS members to experience something different.

PLEASE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS CLOSELY.

Directions to Dally Gap (from ATL area): Dally Gap - Jack's River trailhead (34.933413,-84.51854)

Take 575N / 515N to Blue Ridge
Turn Left onto GA 5 toward Epworth (there is a McDonalds at the turn)
Travel 3.7 miles on GA 5 and then turn Left onto Old GA 2
Continue on Old GA 2 for approx. 10.5 miles (Note: at 9.0 miles pavement ends)
At intersection at Watson Gap.... look for large Cohutta Wilderness sign and take a very hard right onto FS 22. It will look more like a trail than a road but will widen as you go. Also, Google maps does not show FS22 correctly so please follow these directions for the turn onto FS22.
Follow FS 22 (one lane gravel/dirt road) for approx. 3.6 miles to the trailhead at Dally Gap.

Note: GPS does not work well in the Cohutta Wilderness.
Mapping apps may not work as expected.
But here is a map anyway - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/384231643
