Advanced Improv SKILLSshop

Facilitated by Russ the BIG Guy

Purpose: This Improvisation SKILLSshop aims to deepen the student’s understanding of Improv performance by building on the basics and moving beyond the quick short-form games. Participants will learn tools that help in the audition process, finding ease when performing scripted material, and of course, improvising engaging performances-both long and short form.

How it Works: Through fun exercises and games, Russ teaches the skills needed to be a more sophisticated improviser and uses side coaching to reinforce specific concepts. Ideas taught by Del Close, by Gary Austin of the Groundlings, and through the UCB Theater, will be practiced to allow players to create long form styles. Some skills addressed are, developing characters, recognizing the unusual, finding the game of the scene, and techniques like editing, entering and exiting, time jumps, etc.

Register or Get More Information: This lively, dynamic, and interactive workshop based on the principles of advanced improv performance does require some previous improv experience. It will be challenging but fun.
