Live Music - Phillip Greenlief

Renowned saxophonist and composer Phillip Greenlief brings his genre-defying sound to Fogtown for a night of bold, boundary-pushing music. A key figure in the post-jazz and experimental music scenes since emerging from the West Coast in the late 1970s, Greenlief has earned international acclaim for his adventurous collaborations and virtuosic improvisation.

He has performed with iconic artists including Wadada Leo Smith, Meredith Monk, They Might Be Giants, and dance duo Rashaun Mitchell & Silas Riener. His extensive discography features projects like LANTSKAP LOGIC TRIO with Fred Frith and Evelyn Davis, THAT OVERT DESIRE OF OBJECT with Joelle Leandre, and OH THAT MONSTER with LA punk pioneers Thelonious Monster.

A frequent artist-in-residence at institutions like Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Neue Musik Köln, and Headlands Center for the Arts, Greenlief is also a sharp cultural critic, with writing published in Artforum, Sound American, and SFMOMA's Open Space.
