Welcome to the next class in the Intro to Various Art Mediums Homeschool series! Our next art teacher is Melissa Neeley. This will be an intro into watercolor painting! Melissa will show 3-4 different watercolor techniques such as wet on wet, adding different textures, etc. The students will then go on to make their own abstract shapes using these techniques and turn them into something fun! No experience needed—just bring your imagination and paint-friendly clothes!
The cost for this class is $5/child. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE SIGN-UP RULES BELOW BEFORE SIGNING UP YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN. There is a maximum number of 20 children allowed into this class (any additional children will be up to the art teacher's discretion). If we reach the max number of students, I will post inside the event that the maximum number has been reached and that the event/class is now closed. Please check in the posts section of the event/class to see whether the class is closed or not before bothering to try to sign up your child at that point. Please READ THE RULES below before deciding whether or not to sign up your child. The smooth execution of these classes depends on everyone being clear on the process and the rules and communicating well with each other. Thank you so much, everyone, for your cooperation with all of the logistics/details. There are a lot of organizational pieces to get a new class/event off of the ground. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Perhaps some of our children will discover a new talent or passion through one (or all) of these classes! Happy creating, everyone!
Rules/Instructions/Requirements:
1. Unless posted differently, all of the classes will be on the second Fridays of the month at 2pm. The art classes will take place at the Gilmer Library in the basement. Please make sure to always CHECK the details or any comments/updates for each new event/class in case these details have to be changed for some unforeseen reason. I have been informed that the elementary school traffic outside of the library can get very BAD in the window of 2-4pm. So I would highly recommend everyone get to the library a little BEFORE 2pm to increase the likelihood that you won't get trapped in the traffic mess.
2. These classes are for children 8 years old and up ONLY. This is also NOT a drop-off class. Parents must remain at the library during the class. Parents are allowed to have their younger children with them at the library, but please come prepared to occupy/entertain them away from the art class area. We want the art teachers to be able to make valuable use of their limited time. We want them to have an organized, quiet space to focus and teach our older children.
3. It is important that the art teachers be able to plan ahead for their needed materials and be able to rely on the number of students they can expect. Sign-up AND payment prior to each art class is REQUIRED in order for your child to attend the class. Some of the classes might be free, but most will not. If you have signed up for your child in the event, your child's spot in the class is NOT guaranteed UNTIL the fee for the class is paid. To "sign up", here are the rules/required steps for signing up your child/children: 1. RESPOND as GOING within the event. 2. PRIVATE MESSAGE me with the NUMBER of children 8 years old and above you are signing up for. 3. VENMO me the cost for your child/children if there is a cost attached to that class. My Venmo is @Whitney-Madrigal-1 . ONLY after each of these steps is completed and you receive a confirmation from me is your child/children officially in that upcoming class. This will be a FIRST COME FIRST SERVED process generally. The cost of each class will be included in the information with each new event/class. Most of the art classes will also have a maximum number of children allowed to attend. This art class is available to other local homeschoolers outside of this group, so bear in mind that the class may fill up very quickly! Any no-shows will not have their money refunded.
4. These art teachers are offering up their valuable time to share their wonderful skills, talents, and passions with our children! It's a wonderful opportunity they are giving our children. Please make certain your child comes prepared to attend quietly and respectfully, so all of the children can learn and have a wonderful, memorable time with the art teacher. Also, we only have the library room space reserved for an exact window of time. The artists/teachers are going to be doing their best to be prompt and make the most of their short class time, so have your child be there on time if you do not want them to miss any of the valuable learning/experience.
5. The library is quite strict with behavior/conduct inside the library. Please make certain your children are prepared to be well-behaved and quiet so as not to disturb others in the library or jeopardize our future access to the library facilities. The library spaces are a wonderful community resource and we do not want anything to take away the homeschooling community's access to that. Please make sure your child knows THEY are responsible for cleaning up their art space before leaving. Also, the library requires we inform everyone that these art classes are not being sponsored by the library.
6. If anyone has any questions, feel free to reach out to me. Happy creating everyone!
