What is a Supply Chain?

Ever wonder why we ran out of toilet paper for so long during Covid? Or why all those pill bottles have so much excess room in them? Or maybe why the most popular cell phone in America has only 5% of its components made here? The answers to all these burning questions lie deep within the "Supply Chain" of each of the companies involved. Nothing in recent history has focused a spotlight on the "Supply Chain" field like Covid did. It was thrust into the national spotlight first as the blame for product unavailability, then later as the "savior of our shelves", then again as a big reason behind historical levels of inflation. Now it's discussed continuously for its job opportunities and advancing innovation in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Adaptive Manufacturing.

You'll learn the basics about how products are developed, where they are made, how they get into our hands, and the future of this field through an interactive presentation and some hands-on examples from an expert in the field, Steve Schoultz. Steve is a graduate of Elkhorn High School and UW-Whitewater, with degrees in Management and Finance. For the first 20 years of his career, he worked in various Supply Chain leadership roles for JM Smucker and Sara Lee, before becoming a consultant in the field in 2012. In 2021 he started teaching Supply Chain concepts as a professor at Harper College in Palatine, IL.
