Route 66 In the Air: Ham Radio Event - Live Contact from the Filling Station

Broadcasting from the Filling Station Visitor Center on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, from 2–4 p.m. for a one-of-a-kind Route 66 experience!

Local ham radio operator Vonnie Meritt will go live from the Filling Station to connect with retired Air Force pilot Bill Hartsell, who will be flying a Cessna along the Mother Road as part of Route 66 On the Air 2025. Hartsell’s specialized callsign is W6Y, and this marks the first year the event includes “Route 66 In the Air.”

👉 Non-hams may even hear Hartsell’s transmissions on 146.490 MHz, and you can track his flight in real time at ADS-B Exchange.

This international radio tradition celebrates its 26th year, connecting Route 66 communities with the world. Light refreshments provided. Don’t miss it!
