Discover the exciting world of 3D design and printing!
This beginner-friendly course is perfect for anyone new to CAD and curious about bringing ideas to life. Using TinkerCAD, a free browser-based program by Autodesk, you’ll quickly learn the essentials of 3D modeling in a fun and approachable way.
Together, we’ll work through four hands-on projects that build your skills step by step. For the final challenge, you’ll put your creativity to the test by designing and modeling your very own chess set.
By the end of the course, you’ll not only feel confident using TinkerCAD, but you’ll also earn 10 credits to use toward FundedYouth onsite services.
Tickets for Class
Info: You will sign into the class using your new student id. Learn how to navigate and select 3D Design in TinkerCAD portal. Create a new 3D Design project. Become familiar with the 3D Design Layout and Toolbars. Learn how use a 3-button mouse. Learn about the different shortcuts, available tools, available objects, how to copy objects, how to use the magical duplicate action button, all about movement, scaling, rotating, cutting and combining, and the difference between solid color and transparent.
Info: We will build a 6-sided die (dice) using the workplane tool. You will be taught about the different types of alignment when selecting multiple objects: Align in-between or align one objects to another object.
Info: We will build a simple castle together. At the point you know the skills you need to build most things in TinkerCAD. You just need some repetitive practice. We will build a basic 4-sided castle using scaling, alignment, movement, and the duplication action. The we learn about the pen tool. The pen tool lets us use straight lines and angles to draw custom designs. We will use this tool build a custom door for our castle.
Info: For the final 30 minutes of class, we’ll create a simple 3D pawn as the first step in designing a full chess set. Your challenge is to explore examples online and bring each of the classic chess pieces to life in 3D—whether you keep them simple or get creative with more complex designs is up to you. Once your set is complete, you’ll share it with a FundedYouth instructor, and upon finishing, you’ll earn 10 credits to use toward any of our onsite services.
