Every material has an origin
Step back in time and experience what it was like when people made their own fabrics from start to finish. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll follow the journey of flax. From plant growing in the field to the strong, beautiful thread that forms the foundation of linen textiles.
Together with Back to the Flax, a collective of passionate Design Academy Eindhoven students, you’ll be guided through each traditional step of the process. You’ll work directly with the plant, reconnect with the roots of linen, and discover how to spin the material from plant to thread.
This is more than a workshop, it’s a chance to slow down, reconnect with the roots of linen-making, and discover how handcraft can inspire sustainable, mindful design today.
Bringing people together through craft
Design Collective, part of Kazerne Young On 1,000 m² of land in Gijzenrooi, the Back to the Flax collective cultivated, harvested, and processed flax by hand - exploring both traditional and experimental methods. Through workshops and active participation, the collective brings people closer to local agriculture and craft. During Dutch Design Week the Back to the Flax collective – all Design Academy Eindhoven students – returns with a new chapter of their multi-year project within the Kazerne Design Lab.
This event is free to attend. No experience required, just bring your curiosity.
