Writing the Body is an in-depth poetry workshop exploring how physical experience can anchor emotion, memory, and meaning in powerful ways. This session invites poets to move beyond abstraction by writing through the senses: touch, breath, movement, tension, and release.
Participants will learn how to translate bodily experience into vivid poetic language, using imagery, rhythm, and structure to bring poems into the physical world. Through guided exercises and supportive discussion, poets will explore how the body can act as both subject and storyteller.
This workshop is ideal for poets interested in writing about identity, vulnerability, illness, strength, intimacy, or presence, as well as those who feel their work could benefit from greater immediacy and sensory depth. No prior experience is required, and all exercises are optional and adaptable to individual comfort levels.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with new approaches to sensory writing, stronger embodied imagery, and a deeper understanding of how the body can shape authentic, resonant poetry.
Suitable for: poets of all levels
Format: in-depth workshop with guided writing and reflective discussion
