How to Perform Poetry is an in-depth poetry performance workshop designed to help poets confidently share their work aloud. Whether you’re preparing for open mics, readings, spoken word events, or simply want to read your poems with greater ease, this session focuses on performance as an extension of the poem itself.
Participants will explore voice, breath, pacing, tone, and presence, learning how performance choices can enhance meaning and emotional impact. Through practical exercises, supportive feedback, and guided practice, you’ll develop tools to perform poetry in a way that feels authentic rather than forced.
This workshop is ideal for page poets curious about performance, spoken word artists refining their delivery, and anyone who feels nervous reading their work aloud. No performance experience is required. The focus is on confidence, clarity, and connection, not theatricality.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with greater control over your voice, a deeper understanding of how poems function aloud, and the confidence to share your work in front of an audience.
Suitable for: poets of all levels, spoken word artists, beginners
Format: in-depth workshop with performance exercises and guided feedback
