What do you think of when you think of home? Maybe it is the smell of a particular laundry soap, a nostalgic song, a story told by family, or the taste of a certain dish.
In honour of Latin American Heritage Month, the City of Edmonton Archives is collaborating with Mi Gente Canada Foundation and the Latin American Student Association (LASA) to host a film and food night at the archives.
Join us for a "Flavors of Latin Heritage" cooking demonstration courtesy of Paraiso Tropical. Learn the stories and techniques behind two iconic Latin dishes: the Salvadoran pupusa and Brazilian guava and cheese empanada. After the demonstration, enjoy a Latin-inspired catering with pupusas, assorted empanadas, and traditional sweets and snacks.
This will be followed by a screening of The Latin American Family, a documentary tracing the lives of Latin American families and individuals in Montreal in the 1980s (more details below).
Come celebrate the legacy and resiliency of Latin American families and what home means to each of us through food, stories, and community.
The Latin American Family. Directed by Germán Gutiérrez, 1986.
Film is in French with English subtitles.
