Needle felting is the art of creating felt by tangling fibres together with a special notched felting needle. In this class, anyone ages 8 and up can learn how to create an adorable little animal with just wool and a felting needle.
This beginner class is dedicated to understanding needle felting and the different fibres that can be used. You will get to see the various fibres used in needle felting application, learn how fibres differ from one another, and get a chance to try different gauges of felting needles & how they are used in felting applications. We will begin the basic structure of the piece during the first half of the class. The remainder of the class will be spent shaping the features and adding details.
The Mouse has been designed based on the Ukrainian folk tale The Mitten, a story of a lost mitten and many different animals who try to live in it until none of them can fit and the mitten bursts open. The reference book for this workshop has been retold and illustrated by the artist Olha Tkachenko and is available for sale in the ACUA Boutique and online here.
Instructor Kim Heron is the owner of Little Blue Fibre Studio, a local yarn, fibre, and craft shop in Edmonton. She graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Fashion Design and has always had a passion for colour and artistic creations, particularly in the textile industry. Kim loves the beauty and magic of felting and is always interested in learning new techniques for anything fibre related.
Each participant will be given one mouse kit, which will include all supplies needed to complete the project. Participants will need to bring their own shoebox.
