This is a once in a lifetime experience to paint with a master. A three-day workshop with master artist, Stapleton Kearns would go something like this. Around 9:00ish we may be having some coffee, maybe a Danish or something. By 10:00 you’ll set up to hear a lecture and watch him do a demo. You will probably do a few exercises following his example. At lunch you can either sit and chat with us and the group or do your own thing.
We will have fixings for sandwiches or a cold plate. After lunch plan on painting outdoors if we can. He’ll probably talk a little about composition but will spend the time going from easel to easel offering advice where needed and sometime picking up a brush, with your permission and put some paint on your canvas. He’ll also complain about your brushes and probably grab one of his own.
By 4:00PM you’ll be exhausted and we’ll probably call it quits for the day but it isn’t over yet. We would like to have dinner as a group, nothing fancy but conversation, mostly about art. That’ll be around 5:00PM. You can either bring your own or we might just order pizza locally. After dinner Stape is going to want to give a lecture and show some slides (photos on his computer) of some other well-known artists and some you might not know so well. There’ll be some lively discussion.
The next day be ready to do it all again.
Prepare to be bold and challenged. We're going to encourage you to paint on surfaces larger than you might be used to. Maybe 16x20, larger? Artworks has easels for your use if your current setup doesn't accommodate larger surfaces.
