Tartan Tabletop presents this original historical comedy by local Edinburgh playwright Benjamin Rome Clarke, performed as part of the National Trust for Scotland’s celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month.
The play follows a husband and wife who marry to hide their homosexuality amidst the high society of 18th Century Edinburgh.
A farce plays out behind the scenes of their idyllic Georgian lifestyle, leading to a disastrous afternoon tea, an impromptu duel and the theft of a priceless diamond.
The script is bombastic, scandalous and savagely witty, a uniquely Scottish spin on such historic gems as Molière’s “Tartuffe”, Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” and BBC's “Blackadder”.
Best of all – the whole thing will be performed in the real 1790s drawing room of The Georgian House.
