We are pleased to announce world-renowned Vadi expert Connor Kemp-Cowell as the guest instructor for our June longsword workshop!
About Connor
Connor Kemp-Cowell is a regular in the world of Competition, Instruction, Content Creation, and running workshops internationally for 8 years. Having made a successful YouTube series dubbed “Hipster Longsword”, and co-authoring a book on the same subject titled “Wielding the Light of Mars”, Connor is one of the most prominent fencers and proponents of Philippo di Vadi’s approach to fencing and the master’s treatise. He has made finals and medalled in a multitude of events using the canonical aesthetics and approach to the system he is well known for, as well as tackling the study of the bolognese tradition and armoured fencing. While he would consider himself a serious practitioner of his sources, Connor tries his best to not take himself too seriously, keeping kindness, courtesy, a sense of humour, and equity in the forefront of his teaching and fencing
About the Workshop
The correct time and measure to land a cut or push a thrust to the opponent is the most variable subject to all of the Ancient Master's arts. In this day long workshop, Connor Kemp-Cowell will lend his interpretation of Vadi's tactical framework and the core technical action of mezzo tempo, rotare, and guard theory with a series of sparring games and technique drills. This class is aimed at fencers of basic to advanced proficiency with longsword, it is taught with simple straightforward language in hopes that the material presented will stick with students for times to come. Full steel sparring kit is recommended for participation. If unavailable or unwanted, students can use SPES GO-NOW foam swords along with masks and gloves.
