Far-right thugs threaten to return to Edinburgh! Oppose the far-right Friday 1st August, 6pm, Near East Meadows Play Park
As Edinburgh opens its doors to welcome visitors from around the world to its multicultural International Festival, far-right organisers of the so-called Great British National Strike in Edinburgh have threatened more racist hatred and intimidation when they return to the city on August 1st.
On May 24th, they organised a far-right protest at St Giles in Edinburgh under the guise of just being concerned about immigration, but the mask quickly slipped as they showed no shame in displaying vile racism and support for fascists. In Glasgow a sister far-right protest by the group displayed a prominent sign reading "Free Tommy Robinson, with supporters openly sieg heiling and attacking anti-racists who had gathered to oppose them.
The large numbers the far right managed to mobilise is a worrying sign that the racists have been emboldened by the racist climate created by Reform UK, Trump and Keir Starmer’s ever growing capitulation to racism as seen in his disgusting ‘Island of Strangers’ speech. A speech he has since distanced himself from, proving anti-racist were correct to oppose this as racist.
The far-right are trying to mobilise again and want to ferment a long hot summer of racist threat and violence. They want a return of fascist riots and Islamophobic pogroms we saw across the streets of Britain last summer. It is critical that anti-racists have to make sure that the far-right side is small and demoralised by mobilising against the fascists when they try to march. We also need to organise against the threat of far-right Reform UK which is dragging politics rightwards.
Join us at the Meadows to show a message of solidarity with refugees, migrants and all those targeted by far-right hatred. We need to send a clear message that Edinburgh welcomes refugees and migrants to our city.
