Whether you are newly bereaved, grieving for someone who died a long time ago, or are just curious to see what a death café is like, you are very welcome.
Expect an informal chat that aims to increase awareness and comfort around talking about death, dying, loss and bereavement. Let's make the most of our finite lives, and reclaim death as part of life.
The cafe will be facilitated by Humanist Society Scotland Celebrant Lara Celini. With thanks to Typewronger Books for hosting the cafe and handling bookings. Places are limited, so please book early, and if you can no longer make it please let us know so that someone else can benefit from this cafe.
There is no cost to participate, and tea / coffee / water will be provided. We can eat cake and discuss death together. You are welcome to stay back afterwards and browse the excellent selection of books and zines available for purchase.
* Please note that a death café is not a bereavement/grief support resource and we advise that you do not attend if your grief feels very raw. We aim to create an open, respectful, and confidential space where people can express their views.
Seats will be provided (feel free to bring your own cushion). There will be no background music on, but we may get some traffic noise from the main road outside, and the book shop will remain open for the duration (a sign on the door will let people know that a Death Cafe is in process). Please note there is no toilet, and the nearest toilet is at McDonald Road Library.
