Culture in Colour is a creative, hands-on workshop series designed to explore identity, heritage, sustainability, and personal expression through textiles and crafts. Delivered by Project Esperanza and hosted at NEA, this three-part series offers children and young people a space to create meaningful art while engaging in thoughtful conversation about where we come from and what culture means to us all.
The workshop welcomes children and young people of all backgrounds and skill levels. It blends accessible craft-making with deeper storytelling and cultural discovery, celebrating unique traditions while also inviting participants to reflect on and share their heritage, whether Scottish, Eastern European, Asian, African, mixed heritage, or otherwise.
Friday 25th July
Tie & Dye + Button Making
Inspired by Yoruba tie-dye (Adire), participants experiment with resist-dye techniques. Design matching badges/buttons with a personal affirmation or proverb.
Fridays 8th August
Plant Hangers + Textile Embellishment
Learn how textiles and natural materials are used globally to beautify and sustain homes. Make hangers with cultural patterns and meaning-infused motifs.
